DAGGARZINE SEZ: I’m not even gonna pretend like I’d heard of this bunch before. Hell, if you were part of the Seattle music scene back in the 80’s when these guys existed probably wouldn’t know who they were. As the story goes five friends (Randy Nash/drums, John Branin/lead guitar, Jeremy Meyer/vocals, Bob Blackburn /rhythm guitar and John Conrad/ bass) got together in 1984 brought together by a love of all things 1960s including Nuggets compilations and British Invasion bands like The Kinks, etc. They recorded one single back then, “1/4 to Zen” b/w “I Love You” and then broke up to , you know , get jobs and stuff (one guy became an insurance claims adjuster, a profession that I fell into as well and continue to this day). Well, in addition to those two songs from the single they scraped together 14 more and this is good n’ raw garage psych that needs to be heard by all fans of the genre (or just folks who simply like the sound of loud guitars). Cuts like “We’re Pretty Quick,” “Hang Up” , the ultra-catchy “She’s Mine” and the clap-happy “Once Before” are all ace cuts that deserve repeated listens. The photo of the band on the cover gives ‘em a sorta Dead Boys snotty look, but the inside color pic looks like an odd cast of characters (maybe some Ren Faire fans). As it says on the press sheet, “Nothing clever, just pure rock from five younger men with nothing to lose.” Good, good stuff.
