As you may have noticed, the world did not end in 2012 when the Mayan calendar expired. To show a bit of caution, we waited another 2.5 years to see if the world ended before making any change. Without further ado, we have decided to align our release calendars.
For the last 5 years we have issued our new releases on the first of the month on the GMR website. The release date for great indie stores and download joints like iTunes would be either the second or third Tuesday of the month, because that’s how that part of the biz works.
While this could confuse dunderheads, we knew that the intelligent, discriminating Green Monkey listener of today would have no problem wading through a mass of misinformation to find the music they love. Then it stuck me. While are we are reaching 1.5 billion people each month, that still leaves over 7 billion whose lives we have yet to change. People possibly despairing for beauty. Time to get it on!
So effective in June, June 16 in fact, we will release our new stuff on the GMR website on the second or third Tuesday, the same time we release it in stores. No more messy confusion – one date to rule them all!
In those months where we don’t have a new release and stream some other great Northwest music, we will also change it up on the second Tuesday, to maintain consistency.
To interject inconsistency, which is somewhat the Green Monkey way, we will do our annual Xmas charity album at the beginning of December to make sure we have unlimited holiday cheer, not that Xmas is anytime soon.
It is our nearly sincere hope that this change will not cause you too much difficulty and that it may in fact provide you inner peace.
