Nov. 2024: Richard Peterson – The Richard Peterson Orchestra Plays Christmas

Yo Turkey!

We continue our annual rotation around the sun, and you know what’s next. Excessive eating and Le Black Friday.

Plus the glory that is Richard Peterson. Richard’s new album is out this Friday and you want it.

I listened to the entire thing this morning and it is outstanding, a worthy addition to the Peterson canon.
Let’s review, shall we?
Richard Peterson has wanted to make his Christmas album for many years. Now the glorious day has arrived. 14 holiday classics, two composed by the Maestro himself, all done in the patented Peterson style (think “Sea Hunt” soundtrack and elevator music!). Piano, drums, brass, occasional vocals!  This is the perfect music for sitting by the fire, sipping your frothy spiced eggnog while you wait for Jolly Saint Nick to arrive.
And you ask, where and when can I hear Richard play these songs in person?

In case you forgot.
Richard Peterson is a Pacific Northwest institution, a well-known savant Seattle trumpet player/piano player/composer. His music is heavily influenced by the 1950’s and 60’s television soundtrack work of the Columbia and Ziv music production companies.
Richard released his first 45rpm single “Want to Be In The States” in 1976.  He advanced his career by playing trumpet outside the football and baseball games for years. He has made records with many Seattle music celebrities. His debut full-length album, “Richard Peterson”, was released in 1982. In 1983, he released his second album, produced by Peter Barnes, from which the Stone Temple Pilots placed a track on their album “Purple”, which sold over 4 million copies.
“Big City Dick: Richard Peterson’s First Movie”, a documentary about Mr. Peterson, was released in 2004. It won the audience award at the Slamdance film festival in Park City Utah.  His penchant for early TV music gained him the friendship of Hollywood actor Jeff Bridges via his father Lloyd Bridges of 1950’s “Sea Hunt” fame. Based on this enduring friendship, Richard often opens for Jeff’s band “The Abiders” when they play the Seattle area.
Green Monkey Records is proud to present the works of the amazing Richard Peterson. We are confident you will marvel at this brilliant new offering. Please give it a listen!
What songs are on the album you ask? Who played on it?

As reminder, a new Green Pajamas single is out bandcamp and  the streamers, “Something About The Light”. Recorded by Jeff and Joe this year, it is the final track on the PJ’s 2-LP 40-year anniversary rarities compilation LP “Just To This (Forty Summers of Lust, Love, Heartbreak and Madness)”, which spans their earliest 4-track recordings to the very present. The album will be released in late November by Sound-Effect Records and you can pre-order it from them on their website (https://www.soundeffect-records.gr/) or by stopping by their shop in Athens, Greece. Green Monkey will have a limited amount of stock available for those of you who prefer paying domestic postage and we will be handling the digital distribution worldwide.

In the world of Bogus Pajama news, inspired by the first Green Pajamas rehearsal in several years, I created this from whole cloth. Please note the inspired use of the 90’s GMR logo created by Ben Thompson.

I have decided to start a completely false rumor about recordings from this exciting practice session. Please note, none of this is true. News Flash: The Green Pajamas recently met and recorded an entire album based around one new song – “Crabshirt”. The album contains 6 distinct versions of the title track, each sung by a different band member and one “sung” by the dog. This will be a limited edition release with only six (6) copies made. Each copy will be dubbed over an original “Summer of Lust” cassette from 1983 manufactured in Bothel, Washington. Each copy will be signed by one of the band members, using lemon juice which must be heated to be seen. The dog’s copy will not be signed. To order your copy, send an envelope full of cash to Green Monkey Records. The six highest amounts of cash will each “receive” one of the six cassettes. There is no need to include a shipping address with your heap of cash as this offer is completely bogus. Thank you.
Also in the completely bogus category, an all new unrecorded Jeff Kelly solo album, also not coming soon:
