The Holidays

Yes—it WAS a pretty amazing time to be making music in Seattle in the late ‘80s-early ‘90s. And it was a relatively small scene—a handful of places to play, a core of bands and friends and fans that went to see and support one another, and a growing sense of excitement. The music was getting really good, and better by the day.

And while the Flannel Super-Nova was brewing…there was some serious Pop Craft happening at the same time. Bands like The Posies, Super Deluxe, Micro Mini…and The Holidays.

The Holidays made a splash with their 1990 EP, Every Day Is A Holiday, garnering solid radio and TV play in Seattle for their song and video “Octopus of Love”. Many Day-Glo infused shows were played at legendary venues like Rock Candy, the Off Ramp, and the Ditto…and The Holidays started work on what would be their 1st album, Big Sexy World. The songs captured the bands’ knack for killer hooks with a dark twist, while expanding their sound, adding a Brass section and some intriguing surprises.

A colorful video was filmed for the song “Who Will Take Care of the World?”, where The Holidays and a bunch of friends took a ‘Mystery Tour’-style trip through Seattle on a 1968 GMC Metro Bus. Destination: Alki Beach on a beautiful summer’s day.

Then—they hit the ‘Pause’ button. Until now.

Big Sexy World is a musical blast from a different time yet sounds fresh and timeless. Somehow, its blend of harmony, hooks, hope, and just-slightly-tempered cynicism is landing in the ‘World’ of 2022…just right.
